National State Rankings

This section aggregates the same cleaned, deduplicated records by state across the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Totals are subject-weighted and use the same valid-ZIP filtering, duplicate handling, and detention-ZIP exclusions as the rest of this report. Territories, military ZIP pseudo-state codes, and other non-state postal codes are excluded from these rankings.

The first table ranks states by total migrants. The second table breaks those state totals out by citizenship; use the citizenship column filter to compare where a specific citizenship ranked across states. Citizenship-state tables include all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including zero-count states, so the filtered view is a complete state comparison.

The final two tables repeat those state comparisons on a per-capita basis, using ACS 2019-2023 state-level total population as the resident denominator. The overall state table is scaled as migrants per 10,000 residents. The citizenship-by-state table is scaled as migrants per 100,000 residents because many citizenship-state counts are too small for a per-1,000 rate to be readable.
