AP-Wide Migrant ZIP Code Destinations

Analysis of CBP FOIA Records

Author

Aaron Kessler, AP Data Team

Intro

This report shows ZIP-level destination breakdowns covering all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.

For more detail on how AP processed the source data, handled duplicate records, cleaned ZIP codes, flagged detention-location ZIPs, and applied privacy rules, see the AP-Wide methodology notes.

The report is split into separate section pages so each page loads only the map and tables needed for that state or Washington, D.C.

All sections use the same duplicate handling, valid-ZIP filtering, and detention-ZIP exclusions as the other ZIP-focused reports in this project.

State Pages

National State Rankings

The national state rankings page compares destination totals across the 50 states and Washington, D.C., using the same cleaned, deduplicated, valid-ZIP-filtered records as the state pages. It includes tables for total migrants by state, totals by citizenship and state, per-capita migrants by state, and per-capita rates by citizenship and state.

Use the citizenship filters on that page to compare where a specific citizenship ranked across states. The citizenship-by-state tables include every state and D.C. for each citizenship, including zero-count states, so filtered views remain complete national comparisons.

How to Use the Tables

The screenshots below use a Total by Country of Citizenship table as an example. The same DT table controls appear throughout the report.

Filter

Use the filter boxes below the column names to narrow the table. For example, filtering the citizenship column to GUATEMALA shows only country-ZIP rows for Guatemala.

Sort

Click a column heading to sort the filtered results. To see the top ZIPs for a specific citizenship, filter the citizenship column, then click the migrants heading until the largest values appear first.

Download

Use the Copy, CSV, or Excel buttons above the table to export the table data. The exported file reflects the table’s active filters and sorting.
